2016 WGC HSBC Champions Betting Preview
The WGC HSBC Champions takes centre stage this week and the tournament boasts a world class line-up after moving from it's usual November slot in the calendar and some top players will battle it out for the $9.5m prize purse. The event is being held at the Sheshan Golf Club in Shanghai once more and it is no surprise to see Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy at the head of the betting market...

The Big Two
It is McIlroy who is an 11/2 favourite (Betfair) as the FedEx Cup champion has gone 4-5-4-6-11 at the Sheshan Golf Club and his scoring average at this venue is a stunning 68.70. McIlroy is joined by Dustin Johnson (6/1), who won the WGC HSBC Champions in 2013 and he also tied 5th in 2015, with the big-hitting American boasting a scoring average of 66.89 from his past three rounds here. Both players are stand-out names in the field but their prices are a bit short for our purposes...
Sheshan has proven to be an immensely popular track where scrambling, accuracy off the tee and finding greens will be key ingredients for success. Sheshan has hosted the WGC HSBC Champions since the inaugural edition 2005, with the sole exception of 2012 when it was held at Mission Hulls.
Adam Scott finished in the top-25 in four of his past five appearances in this tournament and can be backed at 25/1 after racking up five successive top-tens on the PGA Tour, while Hideki Matsuyama is in hot form, going 5-1-2 in his last three outings worldwide, but the Japanese star has a poor record in this tournament (78-41-WD).
Paul Casey's own red hot run of form cooled slightly with his tie for 21st at Kuala Lumpur, albeit it is worth noting that he co-led for scrambling. Casey had secured four successive top-four finishes prior to last week and he is a player who enjoys visiting China, where he has secured eight top-25 finishes in his last nine visits, while he has also picked up five top-tens at the WGC HSBC Champions.
Tip #1: Paul Casey (each way) @ 25/1 with Bet Victor.
Meanwhile, Martin Kaymer won this tournament in 2011 and his record here is really quite impressive (20-6-30-1-9-8-6-30). The German also holds the course record of 62 at Sheshan and a player who has finished in the top-fifteen in eight of his past ten outings warrants respect here.
Tip #2: Martin Kaymer (each way) @ 40/1 with BetVictor.com.
Finally, Charl Schwartzel looks to be over priced at 60/1 and he makes our shortlist. The South African signed off the FedEx Cup play-offs with a tie for 4th at the BMW and a tie for 10th at the Tour Championship, while it is worth noting that he has twice finished in the top-six at Sheshan.
Tip #3: Charl Schwartzel (each way) @ 60/1 with Bet Victor.
