The Big Two
The 6,842 yard course is one that the world's top player, Lydia Ko, knows well as the world number one is defending champion following her impressive victory last year. The success came after she had finished runner-up at Evian in 2013 and tied 8th in 2014, and it is no surprise to see that a player who has picked up four wins and thirteen top-tens this year is a 9/2 favourite with Bet 365.
Ariya Jutanugarn is hot on the heels of Ko at the top of the world rankings though and the Thai star looks to be hitting another of her hot streaks of form. She won three titles in a row in May and she has now won two of her past four starts ahead of the Evian Championship, with Jutanugarn winning the British Open and Canadian Open prior to her tie for 5th at the Manulife LPGA Classic last week. Jutanugarn is an 8/1 shot with Paddy Power but she could only tie for 46th at Evian last year.
Our best bet of the week is Lexi Thompson at 20/1 though as the American simply loves playing at the Evian in France, finishing 3rd in 2014, tied 10th in 2014 and runner-up in 2015. A victory remains elusive here but Thompson offers great each-way value as she bids to build on a strong year that has seen her pick up four top-eight finishes in seven starts since winning a title in Japan in impressive fashion back in May.
Thompson is a player for the big occasion as she has one win and nine other top-ten finishes to show from her last fifteen appearances in major tournaments.
Tip #1: Lexi Thompson (each way) @ 20/1 with Bet 365.
Meanwhile, Shenshan Feng is another player with a close affinity to the Evian as her form in the last four visits reads: 4-11-10-3. The Buick Championship winner is making her first appearance since picking up a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics and she is another who should be in contention here.
Tip 2: Shenshan Feng (each way) @ 20/1 with Paddy Power.
Finally, Suzann Pettersen won the Evian here in 2013 and the Norwegian should be right at home if the forecast inclement weather falls in France this week. Pettersen closed the Manulife LPGA Classic with a 66 as she took a share of 5th spot and that result enhanced a fine run of recent form that has seen her miss just one cut in her past thirteen appearances.
Pettersen has picked up eleven top-25 finishes, including three top-fives, in her past thirteen outings and she can be backed at 20/1.
Tip #3: Suzann Pettersen (each way) @ 20/1 with Paddy Power.
Furthermore, Pettersen has ended the opening day of the Evian Championship in the front four of the leaderboard in two of the last three years and she is a tempting 28/1 to be first round leader come the close of play on Thursday.
Tip #4: Suzann Pettersen first round leader (each way) @ 28/1 with Sky Bet.
