2016 Paul Lawrie Match Play Betting Preview
The second edition of the Paul Lawrie Match Play takes place at Archerfield Links Golf Club in North Berwick, Scotland, this week and we fancy Chris Wood and David Howell to go well. Kiradech Aphibarnrat won the inaugural edition of the Race To Dubai event by beating Robert Karlsson in the final at the Murcar Links twelve months ago and we are siding with players who have decent match play records this time around...
- David Howell has a 13-9 winning record in career match play singles
- Howell, the 2013 Alfred Dunhill Links winner, finished 3rd at the inaugural Paul Lawrie Match Play in 2015

The Head Of The Betting
The tournament features 64 players in a straight knockout style of play and the draw for Thursday's opening round of matches was confirmed earlier this week, with the winner of each match going through to the last-32 on Friday.
Alex Noren is the 14/1 favourite (Paddy Power) as he again showed his brilliant form around the greens by winning the Scottish Open and the five-time European Tour winner will be relishing a first round meet-up with Scott Jamieson.
Matthew Fitzpatrick's task isn't quite so easy though as the Nordea Masters winner comes up against Thomas Bjorn and it is worth noting that Fitzpatrick has missed the cut in each of his last three stroke play appearances in Scotland. Fitzpatrick will be hoping that the match play format can yield better results.
Chris Wood (16/1) has a 6-9-1 record in career match play singles and the BMW PGA Championship winner should enjoy the relatively weak nature of the field. The Englishman takes on the woefully out-of-form Brett Rumford in the first round and Wood's recent form, which includes six top-25s this year, ensures that he should win that match-up. Furthermore, Wood has a decent links game and he can take confidence from his quarter-final effort here twelve months ago, which he followed up with a top-four effort at the Alfred Dunhill Links.
Tip #1: Chris Wood (each way) @ 16/1 with PaddyPower.com.
Meanwhile, Marc Warren is someone who is worthy of consideration after reaching the semi-finals last year and he opens up against Jorge Campillo, although it is David Howell who is our second pick. Howell's 2016 campaign has been ravaged by injury but he has been slowly playing his way back to form and fitness, with the Englishman finally finding some touch with a solid effort in Scotland prior to his top-25 at the Open Championship.
Howell loves playing in Scotland as he has only missed one cut in his last eleven visits and the 2013 Alfred Dunhill Links winner did finish third in this tournament last year. The 50/1 shot faces a tricky task against Riche Ramsay first up but if he can get through that then his price could prove very tempting indeed.
Tip #2: David Howell (each way) @ 50/1 with Boylesports.
