The Leading Contenders
It is perhaps a shame that more of the world's leading players aren't in attendance this week but there are still some quality golfers on show for what is always a technical challenge on the 7,419 yard course at Bay Hill.
It is a venue that Rory McIlroy knows well as he tied 11th there on debut in 2015 before tying 27th last year and he should be full of confidence after playing well on his return from injury in Mexico, albeit we prefer to swerve the 7/1 favourite and go for Henrik Stenson at 9/1.
Stenson has a fantastic record at Bay Hill as his last five visits have yielded finishes of 15-8-5-2-3 and he tied 7th at the Valspar in what was his first outing since withdrawing from Mexico. The likeable Swede has all of the attributes to contend here and the form of the reigning British Open champion during the past twelve months or so is comparable, if not better, than anything else in the field.
Tip #1: Henrik Stenson (each way) @ 9/1 with Sky Bet.
Hideki Matsuyama (14/1) should also enjoy a tournament where he tied 6th last year but he has been a little disappointing since defending his title in Phoenix, while defending champion Jason Day has a few question marks to answer before we can back him at 14/1. Rickie Fowler (18/1) does have a best of tied 3rd from five visits to Bay Hill but he has failed to break the top-25 in his other four appearances.
The Best Of The Rest
We like the look of Francesco Molinari this week as the Italian has been in electric form since winning his home tournament last year, subsequently racking up three successive top-six finishes on the European Tour before starting 2017 with four top-20s in five appearances on the PGA Tour. The Italian is clearly growing in confidence and the four-time European Tour winner could be in line for a first PGA Tour title at a tournament he clearly enjoys, with Molinari finishing 34-5-17-9 in four appearances at Bay Hill.
Tip #2: Francesco Molinari (each way) @ 45/1 with Bet 365.
Zach Johnson is another who is very much a horse for this course as the 2015 Open winner has missed just one cut in thirteen appearances at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, securing six top-fifteen finishes. The American may have disappointed in Mexico recently but his form was very decent before that and he will relish the chance to get back out at this venue.
Tip #3: Zach Johnson (each way) @ 66/1 with Bet 365.
Finally, Morgan Hoffman is another player with a decent record at Bay Hill as he has finished inside the first-five of the leaderboard after the first round in two of his three visits, eventually going on to finish tied for 4th in 2015. We prefer to build on that first round statistic though and a man who tied 2nd at The Honda Classic and started The Valspar with a 69 in his last two outings is worthy of attention at 150/1 in the first round leader bracket.
Tip #4: Morgan Hoffman first round leader (each way) @ 150/1 with Bet Victor.
