Lydia Ko is a short-priced favourite to win a first Open title and the task facing the New Zealander has been made considerably easier by the absence of defending champion, Inbee Park, who won at Turnberry twelve months ago. Park has endured an injury-ravaged year and her thumb complaint ensures she won't be defending her title, which leaves Ko as a 4/1 market leader (Bet Victor).
Ko has taken full toll of Park's problems this year as she landed a second major title at the ANA Inspiration earlier this term and she will hope to build on last year's tie for 3rd at Turnberry.
The Market Leaders
Ko obviously sets the standard here but she faces stiff competition from 2013 champion Stacy Lewis (18/1), who is searching for a first major title in three years, with her last success coming on the Old Course at St Andrews.
The exciting Ariya Jutanugarn saw her form cool a touch after securing three successive wins earlier this year but she has bounced back with a runner-up effort at the Marathon Classic and she now has five top-six finishes to go along with her three victories for the season. The Thai starlet did tie for 6th at the European Masters in England in 2014 and she arrives at Woburn as a 20/1 chance.
Meanwhile, the in-form Sung Hyun Park (25/1) has finished no worse than tied 13th in her last five starts worldwide and is capable of building on her tie for 3rd at the US Women's Open last time out.
It is a proven major performer who tops our shortlist for the week though as Suzann Pettersen is a tempting 33/1 (Bet Victor). The Norwegian has finished in the top-five in each of her last three appearances at the British Open and she is such a consistent name when it comes to major tournaments, with the 35-year-old finishing in the top-ten in 13 of her last 20 major appearances.
Pettersen may be getting on in years when compared to some of the leading fancies but experience counts for plenty in English conditions and it would be dangerous to write the two-time major champion off. The 2013 Evian Championship winner picked up a tie for 3rd at the Portland Classic recently and she hasn't missed a cut on the tour since March.
Tip #1: Suzann Pettersen (each way) @ 33/1 with BetVictor.com.
Finally, So Yeon Ryu has been exceptional on the LPGA Tour this year as the South Korean hasn't missed a cut in fifteen starts and she is on a stunning run having racked up nine successive top-20 finishes. The 2011 US Women's Open winner has previous on British shores too as her last four appearances in this tournament have seen her go 5-17-17-3, with the 25/1 on offer about her winning looking very tempting this week.
Tip #2: So Yeon Ryu (each way) @ 25/1 with Bet Victor bookmakers.
